Information System on Ecological Building Materials (WECOBIS)

A well informed assessment and selection of building materials by architects and planners for the sustainable planning, building and operation of buildings, is a core task. In addition to the functional, technical, legal and economic influences public health, environmental and social issues are of importance and require to be integrated.

Subject of the project WECOBIS was the development and deployment of a Web-based information system on health and environmental aspects of building materials. It aims to support architects and planners in the assessment and selection of building materials for the sustainable planning, building and operation of buildings.

WECOBIS was supported by the research program Opens external link in new window "Forschungsinitiative Zukunft Bau" of the BMVBS and by the Opens external link in new windowBavarian Chamber of Architects. IAI was responsible for system development. In 2009, the project was completed and the information system handed over  to BMVBS , which engaged a company to maintain and operate WECOBIS further on.
